If, for whatever reason, you do not want to be tracked by surveillance, don’t stay in one spot for too long and as you make your way through the casino, take lots of twists and turns with few straight lines from one end to the other. I worked in casino surveillance and having to track someone until the police arrived, or until security in the casino could pin them down and keep an eye on them, was made incredibly difficult by those persons who zig-zagged all over the place. In the surveillance room, the cameras were more often than not, in a predictable pattern. In my casino at the time, we had over 1,500 cameras. If we had to track someone going east to west across the floor, for example, the cameras might line up as #s 894, 888, 880, 795, 744, etc. If you zig zag, the observer has to keep spatial relationship in mind due to the complexity of cameras and the one observed makes it more difficult when they hit #s 894, 324, 1,002, 19, 700, 144, etc.

Also, wear layers of clothing, alternating eyewear, caps, sweaters, colors, etc. Sometimes I’d get a call from the floor to keep an eye on someone “in a pink cap and grey sweater” for them. I’d look for that combo and couldn’t find the person, who, I’d learn later, “is now in a red top, cowboy hat and sunglasses.”

Also, due to facial software systems, the more experienced card sharps would know to avoid looking up at the cameras or keep their gaze in one direction too long. The surveillance observer tipped off about this patron is upstairs trying desperately to get a clear shot of the person’s face to input into the system to see if it matches known advantage players previously input. It also frustrates the observer if the person is wearing a cap or hat with a brim, shades, and sometimes a wig or facial hair that is completely different from the stored information.
